TYPES OF FUNERAL
Traditional Burial
This involves a funeral service followed by the interment of the body in a cemetery. The celebrant leads the funeral service. They offer prayers, readings, and eulogies, and support the family in creating a meaningful ceremony.
Cremation
The body is cremated, and the ashes can be kept, buried, or scattered according to the family's wishes. The celebrant leads the funeral service before the body is cremated, helping to personalise the ceremony with tributes, readings, and music, and may also offer words of comfort at the internment of the ashes at the crematorium or other chosen place.
Direct Cremation
This is where the body is cremated without a prior funeral service. In this case, there is usually no funeral service, but families may choose to hold a memorial service later. The celebrant would then assist in planning and leading this service, providing a space for remembrance and tribute.
Green or Eco-Friendly Funerals
These are designed to have minimal environmental impact. They often use biodegradable coffins, natural burial grounds, and avoid embalming chemicals. The celebrant in an eco-friendly funeral focuses on honouring the deceased in a way that reflects their environmental values, incorporating nature-themed readings and rituals, and facilitating the burial in a natural setting.

Humanist or Non-Religious Funerals
These ceremonies focus on celebrating the life of the deceased without religious content. A humanist or independent personal celebrant leads these ceremonies, working closely with the family to create a personalised ceremony that includes music, readings, and tributes.
The celebrant’s role is essential in guiding the service, providing comfort, and ensuring that the ceremony truly reflects the deceased's life and values. This way, each type of funeral can be tailored to reflect the beliefs and preferences of the deceased and their family, ensuring a meaningful farewell.
